
The character of War Machine was first launched by Marvel Comics. War Machine character James Rupert Rhodes started appearing in Iron Man in January 1979, after the original character of Iron Man went down. David Michelinie, John Byrne and Bob Layton, designed the James Rhodes character for Iron Man. Nicknamed Rhody, the character was a supporting character that later took the main lead in Iron Man. In movies, Iron Man has been played by Robert Downey as Tony Stark while Terrence Howard, Don Cheadle have played the role of Rhody. Next year Don Cheadle will play War Machine as it appears in Avengers.
