Damien Chazelle, Barry Jenkins to Receive Outstanding Director Awards at 2017 Santa Barbara Film Festival

The “Moonlight,” “La La Land,” “Arrival” and “Manchester by the Sea” directors will each be honored individually before participating in a joint conversation at the ceremony on Feb. 7 at the historic Arlington Theatre, Santa Barbara, California.

The festival has previously honored Warren Beauty with its Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film, and has announced that it will honor Isabelle Huppert (“Elle”) with its Montecito Award, Denzel Washington (“Fences”) with its Maltin Modern Master Award and Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone

Here Are The 2017 Oscars Nominees

The Oscars announced the nominees for the 89th annual Academy Awards early Tuesday (Jan. 24) morning and as expected, La La Land came out on top.
The sweeping musical, which stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, scored a record-tying 14 nominations, including nods in major categories such as Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song.

‘Bye Bye Man’ Creeps Up on ‘Hidden Figures’ at Friday the 13th Box Office

The movie about the Boston Marathon bombing is on track for a $15 million holiday weekend, although some analysts had projected the film to open in the $20 million range.

Heading into the weekend, analysts had projected a close race between the film starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, and “Hidden Figures,” “Rogue One” and “Patriots Day.”

In September, the studio’s parent company Viacom reported a $115-million writedown for a movie believed to be “Monster Trucks.”

The studio’s other film, Martin Scorsese’s “Silence,” is expanding nationwide this weekend to 747 theaters, grossing $660,000 on Friday.

State of the Oscar Race: Can Anything Beat ‘La La Land?’
